Teaching An Old Dog New Tricks
If you find yourself living in an older home and are thinking about putting it on the market, here are some suggestions on what you can do to present it in its best light:
Paint - Neutral colours are best and this is probably the best investment you will make.
Hardwood Floors - I would suggest living room and hallway to start. Hardwood just says quality and class and even having only 1 room with it is a statement.
Kitchens and Bathrooms - Arguably the most important rooms in a home, they are always at the top of my clients' lists as to whether or not they like the home. Money spent here is money well spent.
Walls - People like open floor plans and if you can knock down a wall or two to create that, go for it.
Ceilings - If you have a basement with 7 foot ceilings, increasing the height of the foundation walls would vastly add to the attractiveness of your home, not to mention the possibility of a revenue suite that could help a young couple afford your home in the first place. If your living room has an 8 foot ceiling with no bedrooms above it, you may want to remove it and create a vaulted ceiling.
These are just a few ideas and I invite you to call me for other ones or if you have any real estate questions.
