Instead of putting a lock on your luggage, which could send the message that there is something in there that is worth protecting or alternatively could be cut off by airport security, use a key ring instead. It is not the ultimate in security, but it will deter a thief who wants to grab something out of a suitcase fast.
Miserable are the persons who do not have something beyond themselves to search for.
